portrait of the west
Roger Pechanec and Skeeter Clark
ZX Ranch buckaroos, Paisley, Oregon
Words and photo by Larry Turner
After a long, hard week in the saddle, wrangling cattle and horses, the ZX Ranch buckaroos, Roger Pechanec and Skeeter Clark, have headed for town for a cold beer or two at the Pioneer Saloon in Paisley, Ore. (population, a few). They are pictured here leaning up against a four-wheeled horse, a critter they spend very little time in.

This photo was taken at the annual Mosquito Festival (only one on planet Earth), which is held the last weekend in July and is Paisley's "big" event of the year. Cowboys and buckaroos celebrate the rural West and vaquero traditions and gather for a ranch rodeo, parade, booths, horseshoe pitching, and barbecue. Paisley's parade is a little larger than Denio, Nevada's one car entry, but you'll still need to be on time to see it!
