| Out where the wild frontier has never been successfully tamed,
the only inhabitants are outlaws, anti-social sheepmen, cattlemen
and prospectors. At a remote sheep camp near Starr Springs, Utah, the crusty resident had no radio, no television, and only a meager library consisting of some well-worn issues of RANGE magazine. I proudly showed my by-line to real cowboys Gary Hallows, left, and Dan Taylor, right. They seemed impressed, and I tried to fit right in. Apparently I didn’t. They stopped calling me John Wayne and changed it to Louis L’Amour. That’s me in the middle with the borrowed chinks and my well-worn copy of The New Yorker. |
